HMI First Responder Program helps property managers plan for catastrophic weather
For two decades, HMI has empowered property owners and managers by providing a holistic solution to enhance, restore, and protect their outdoor property. In the winter of 2023, a popular resort and RV park in Maine suffered major storm damage that impacted the safety of the 775-acre lakeside community known for its natural tree canopy.
The storm caused widespread tree damage that required clearing trees and restoring the property to be safe for residents and visitors. HMI arborists inspected the property within a hours of the storm and provided valuable emergency services for a speedy recovery, including managing the process and filing insurance claims.
Planning for Emergency Response
HMI's arborist evaluated the site and reported on the need for removal of 36 fallen trees, ranging in size from 20 to 70 feet tall. Every tree had either uprooted or snapped off near the base, including species such as Hemlocks, White Pines, Maples, Poplars, Beech, Birch, and Cherry trees. Five trees landed on structures, though storm damage did not impact the golf course property.
As a result of this site analysis, the property owner engaged HMI to develop an emergency response program for all of its RV parks and 55+ communities across the country. The organization develops and operates 21 locations along the Florida coast as well as locations in Maine, Georgia, South Carolina, and California.
